Katie goes to the Big City

This past weekend Taylor and I took our trip to Chicago. The 3rd biggest city in the U.S, and my biggest city to have ever visited.
Chicago was so cool. The architecture is unbelievable. I found myself looking at a building built in the 1800's with such ornate detail and then right next to it, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.  My pictures do not come close to showing this city the justice it deserves.
We went to the Art Institute, saw the silver bean and the Buckingham fountain, got my hot dog and my deep dish, but Wrigley Field was undeniably the coolest experience. Once I sat down and looked out on the field, I couldn't help but think about all the greats that have played on that very field. And you know what else? They still have a little man in far center field who changes the score.
After the game, we decided to see what Wrigleyville had to offer for night life. Cubbie Bear was our first stop. If you ever want to see a bunch of white people trying to dance, this is your place. Once that got old we stepped back on the street in front of Wrigley Field. I look up and what do I see? Fate. " Come to the Houndstooth Saloon, Roll Tide" was flashing on the screen outside the stadium.
Obviously, we go to the Houndstooth. Upon entering we were greeted by the bouncer wearing a roll tide t-shirt. We then saw several people wearing crimson and white. Taylor was a kid in a candy store. He immediately started talking football to his new best friends. What made this night better? Taylor being able to yell Rocky Top (bama style) and Dixie Land Delight at the cubs fans, who by the way, probably had no idea what was going on. Shout out to Rebecca and Jeremy who kept us entertained!
Sunday we wanted to grab brunch and see the sites. Brunch took place at Lou Mitchell's. After waiting in a line that wrapped around the corner, we took our seats at a long table with some locals. We drank some of the best coffee and orange juice I have ever had. Taylor's french toast was more than an inch thick and my omelet was loaded with fresh tomatoes and some of the best hash browns ever.
After our brunch we took a walk along the Hudson before we had to catch our plane. That might be when I fell in love with Chicago's charm. I hated to leave this wonderful place. One, because I wanted a little more time to see everything, and two, because I was dreading going back to the humidity. Here are some of our pictures!

Something's Gotta Give.

So for those of you who are married can hopefully relate to me on this one. I haven't worked out ONCE since Taylor and I got married the first weekend in JUNE. WHHHHAAAAATTT. I'm not sure what happened? I believe it had something to do with the hard core P90X workout I did from Dec 2-June 2. Six months of listening to some dude named Tony who is hyped up on "life", so he says. I think he is hyped up on a little somethin somethin extra if you know what I mean. Needless to say, it was a pretty ballin workout. I tore my acl back in highschool so this type of workout was good for my joints and what not.
Anyway- all of that hard work has been overshadowed by my recent bad habits of poor eating choices and opting out on the whole workout experience. That is, until yesterday when Taylor and I attempted to get a good run in after work. HA. Pathetic would be a good word to use. I could barely run a mile. Embarrassing, I know. Things are about to get intense around here with our eating habits and workout routines.
I guess I'm writing this all down to make me a believer. It has been really hard adjusting to the whole work thing. When I get home I just wanna chill. Sooo we will see how this goes. Now that I have written it all down and the whole "world" can see. I better actually follow through.

You can't tell me this guy isn't a little looney..

You know you're Growing up when...

  • Summer Vacation passes and you never got a break
  • Bills show up with your name on them
  • Bridesmaids dresses are a semi-annual purchase
  • "Going out" now means dinner and a movie
  • LAUNDRY.
  • You go from, "what bar will we go to tonight" to "what will we cook for dinner".
  •  Pulling "all-nighters" seems like ancient history.
Somehow all of these things just suddenly happen without us even realizing we are changing. I still think of myself as a youthful teenager, just one with more responsibilities.  I'm so blessed to have a husband who appreciates me and loves me for my silliness. I don't know about y'all but I still love playing with friends and having sleep overs.

This is Alabama Football

With fall comes cooler temps (hopefully), the changing of  leaves, the wearing of your favorite boots, and Saturdays filled with football. If you are an Alabama fan, you just got goose bumps reading the title of this post. This is Alabama Football. The words spoken with great pride over the sound system at Bryant-Denny right before kick off.  I have been waiting anxiously for the first game to get here- only 32 days until game day and you can feel the excitement. The high reached 105 yesterday, but I can still feel fall approaching. Football in the South is like nothing else I've ever read or heard about. It's all about the tradition with us southern football lovers. No matter where you look, there is tradition. Whether it is hounds-tooth on game day, toomer's corner after a win, or tailgating on the grove before a big game. It's something we look forward to each year. So hang in there football fans, it is almost time to put on your colors, fill up your favorite cup and shake your lucky shaker.
